The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence, memoranda, reports, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous printed material that were collected by Mayer Newfield in his capacity as an official of the Anti-Defamation League for the years 1959 to 1973. The remainder of the collection consists of a much smaller body of material collected by Newfield through his involvement with the Birmingham (Ala.) Jewish Community Council. Among the subjects covered in the papers are anti-semitism, the civil rights movement, the radical right, and Jewish-Christian relations.

Mayer Newfield is an attorney in Birmingham, Ala., and an active member of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith. He was elected to serve on the Anti-Defamation League's National Commission in 1959. He is also an active member of the Birmingham Jewish Community Council.
